Some homes whisper. This one, tucked into a wooded lot on a peaceful cove in Hood Canal, Washington state, wears a striking blue exterior that immediately catches your eye, and we love it for that.
What makes the colour work so well is that it is distinctive without feeling out of place. The blue-grey siding plays off the water and sky, while still sitting naturally against the surrounding evergreens. Paired with light trim and warm wood details, it gives the home a strong identity without competing with its setting.
That was our first impression when these latest construction photos arrived from our clients on the Olympic Peninsula. With the home partway through construction and the siding going up, many of the details that give the exterior its character are already taking shape.
Starting With a Finished Set of Plans
One of the things people are often surprised to learn about working with Tamlin is how flexible the starting point can be.
Some clients come to us with little more than a napkin sketch and an idea of how they want to live. Others choose one of our existing home plans and customize from there. Then there are projects like this one, where the clients arrived with a complete set of drawings from their architect at Zetterberg Gregory Design.
Working from those drawings, our team developed a complete Tamlin home package for the project.
It is a great example of how a Tamlin home does not have to start with one of our plans. Clients can come to us at very different stages, from an early idea to a detailed set of completed drawings, and we can work with that starting point to help move the project toward construction.
The Blue, Up Close
Now that the exterior is taking shape, the Stone Blue siding is one of the details that stands out most.
The horizontal Hardie board lap siding is finished in Stone Blue, a rich blue-grey that has a strong presence while still feeling connected to its Hood Canal setting. Against the water, sky and surrounding evergreens, the colour feels especially at home.
Up close, the siding also shows off the textured woodgrain look that gives it added depth and character. It is a good example of the kind of exterior material many homeowners are drawn to today, offering the look of traditional wood siding with the practical benefits of fibre cement.
Crisp light trim provides contrast, while warm wood details at the entry and outdoor living areas keep the exterior feeling grounded and inviting.
An Entrance That Deserves a Closer Look
The front entrance is one of the details that immediately catches your attention.
The double mahogany doors feature intricate decorative glass, with a matching transom window above that continues the pattern across the full entry. Set against the Stone Blue siding, the rich wood tones bring warmth to the front elevation and make the entrance feel especially distinctive.
It is the kind of detail that gives a custom home its own character, even before the surrounding exterior finishes are complete.
